Port Report 3/18 LAX and LGB Ports Covid-19

March 19, 2020

Terminals and labor at the Los Angeles/Long Beach ports continue to operate.  The ILWU has indicated that they wish to continue working per the contract but have requested additional safety equipment be deployed.  General commodity volume from Asia has improved, a sign that China is producing again.

With respect to businesses operating in the greater Los Angeles area, there is considerable focus on work at home strategies.  Some businesses such as restaurants and bars have been forced to close.  So far there is no indication this will change but conditions change daily.

Southwest Port Services continues to operate with full staff.  Import cargo continues to arrive and be processed.  Export is beginning to dry up but we are still making consolidations to the key Asia locations.  We are beginning to implement work at home to the extent that is possible.  We will continue to update our customers as conditions change.

Best Regards,
